Hemidrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 1.93 g, 9 h), Tabaristan, citing governor Jarir ibn Yazid (PYE 135-137 = AH 170-172 = AD 786-788), PYE 135 = AH 170 = AD 786. Draped Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing elaborate crown; behind and before head, ‘GDE – ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin to left, ‘Jarīr’ (‘Jarir’ in Arabic); in outer margin to right, ‘ʾp̄d’ (‘wonderful’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar, flanked by two attendants; above altar, two stars; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, ‘tpwlstʾn’ (‘Tabaristan’ in Pahlavi). Album 64. Rare. Areas of weakness and with some flan faults, otherwise, extremely fine.
